In Praise of Buttons

Point-and-shoot cameras made photography a breeze for anyone who wanted to snap a picture. Computers shifted from command-line interfaces to user-friendly graphical icons (and according to Bill Gates was the last big whoa moment for him before he saw GPT in action). These two seemingly minimal changes brought technology to the masses. A similar shift is happening in AI. It's as simple as adding buttons.

Only a few months ago, every parameter, every setting, had to be typed out meticulously. It was a space reserved for the techno-elite who reveled in complex commands, leaving others feeling like outsiders. Like using a manual SLR camera, you needed to know the perfect settings just to get a decent shot.

Adobe Firefly turned the most common text prompts into buttons.

Adobe Firefly's buttons have done the same thing, allowing artists and creators to bring their ideas to life without being coding experts.

With every passing hour, 10 new AI tools emerge. 9 of them are APIs for GPT -- but with buttons. Ideation, copywriting, presentation makers, all just interfaces to make the Shoggoth more approachable. Kudos to these entreprenuers, they are taking us further along.

Why is this such a big deal? Because it's not about the button. It's about what the button allows us to do. It makes AI tools more accessible, letting more people harness AI's potential—and letting their talents blossom. We are proud to be teachers at Creative AI Academy, because we meet so many smart, good people who could do smarter, better things if they just sat down and engaged AI. By improving UI and UX of AI, we can empower more of these people.

GPT now provides thought starters, taking the fear out of a blank Prompt Field

It might seem like such a simple and obvious step, but sometimes, the most obvious steps are the most revolutionary. The addition of buttons to AI interfaces is more than just a convenience; it's a bridge, a connection to a world where more good people can use AI to do more good things.

So here's to the buttons, the unassuming heroes of technology, always there, ready to unleash the power of innovation to anyone willing to tap or click.
